First Call: KN2IGW in 1954 Other Call(s): J6LBH
This world lost a caring, clever man on December 14, 2020 when Bob Hardy peacefully passed away at his home in Las Cruces, NM and he will be greatly missed by his large family, and many friends.
Bob was born in Buffalo, NY on May 28, 1938 to Mildred and George Hardy and attended Amherst Central High School. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Erie Community College in 1960. After a short career in the semi-conductor division of Westinghouse, he founded Neu-Lec, a company that manufactured industrial control panels, in 1963 and later purchased Schmidt Sheet Metal Works. He sold Neu-Lec and Schmidt in 1987 and headed West to get away from the NY winters. After a brief retirement in Las Cruces, NM, where he enjoyed "meeting" Ham Radio friends from all over the world, he began helping neighbors with their home-improvement projects which quickly turned into a very successful second career as an electrical contractor and the creation of a new company - Current Controls. He sold that business in 2010 and finally had time to work on re-building his 1956 Corvette (except when the Buffalo Bills were playing).
He is survived by two sons; Chris (wife, Diane) and Erik (wife, Katya) and one grandson, Matthew, all of Hilton Head Island, SC. He is also survived by his fourth wife Patty (Kendall), several stepchildren, his oldest brother Ron of Poway, CA and 17 nieces and nephews from Buffalo, NY, San Diego, CA and many places in between. He was pre-deceased by two of his brothers; Ed (Boca Raton, FL) and George (Buffalo, NY) as well as his first wife Becky Slosson and third wife, Virginia Smith.
Because of the current pandemic, no services will be held at this time but a memorial will be scheduled for later in 2021 at a time when it is safe for his family and friends to celebrate his life together.
