Ron is retired from the position of Chief Engineer, RF Systems at Bird Technologies Group, TX RX Systems where he assisted Public Safety customers with major performance issues and also served on the TR-8 land mobile technical committee of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) as chair of TR-8.11, Antenna Systems and vice-chair of TR-8.18, Systems Compatibility. He relocated to Florida and now works part-time for Bird as a Senior Consultant.
Ron has a long history of RF Product and Systems Engineering and design experience and has held senior engineering positions at Allen Telecom, where he designed the cellular telephone and 800 MHz public safety coverage system used within the Washington D.C. Subway system and The Antennas Specialists Co.,where he developed an industry-standard side-mount antenna pattern prediction program Ron began his civilian career with Harris Corporation.s RF Communications Division in 1974 where he designed IMTSmobile telephone systems and subscriber equipment.
He is retired from the Army Reserve at the rank of Major and served on active duty with the Strategic Communications Command at Fort Huachuca, AZ. As a member of the Reserve he was Staff Technical Advisor to FORSCOM Special Operations until his retirement in 1992.
Ron has more than 49 years of experience with Amateur Radio and radio clubs. He is currently active as a volunteer in Brevard County, FL emergency communications organization. He also remains active as a 45-year member of the Army Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS). He is a long-time member of ARRL, where he has served as Assistant Technical Coordinator and is beginning his third termon the board of directors for the Radio Club of America.
He also finds time to be an elder at Grace Bible Presbyterian Church in Cape Canaveral where he lives with his wife of 40 years, Kathleen.
Ron is a graduate of Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
