Owego - Elwyn G. Erway, 88, passed away on Sept. 12, 2018. In addition to his parents, Lawrence and Lizzie Bates Silliman Erway, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Leola Moore Erway.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor Shattuck Erway, daughter Elaine (Dan) Sherman, sons, Phillip and Norman Erway. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Jailyn (Jessica) Sherman, Eric Sherman, Melody and Zara Kershaw, River and Skylar Madrigal; cousins: Carolyn, Bruce, Keith, Bill, Rita, Roberta, Patricia, Debbie and Ken.
As a young man, he proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated Valedictorian from Hammondsport (NY) High School and then received his degree from Mohawk Community College, Utica. He served in the US Army before beginning his career as an electronic technician first at Westinghouse followed by 25 years at IBM, Owego. Elwyn was a devoted member of the Owego United Methodist Church and sang in the Chancel Choir there. He also lent his voice with the IBM Chorus and the Owego Community Chorus. He enjoyed being a ham radio operator (K2TAE) as well as his memberships in the Tioga County Men's Garden Club and the Catatonk Woodcarvers.
His Family will received friends at the Owego Methodist Church from 1-2 PM on Friday, Sept 28th. A Memorial Service will follow and Military Honors will be accorded.
