Emory G Wall, Jr, 94, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Port Charlotte, Florida. He spent his last days at home, surrounded by all six of his children. A resident of Little Silver, NJ for over 30 years, Emory was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen S. Wall. Emory was born in Buffalo, NY and lived in Lockport, NY, where he graduated from high school at the age of 16. He married Helen in 1943 and enlisted in the Army during World War II, landing on the beaches of Normandy on his 22nd birthday. Following the war he enrolled in the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering -he was a proud Sooner his entire life. Emory and Helen started a family, eventually settling in Monmouth County NJ where he worked for the Department of Defense at Fort Monmouth. In addition to his day job, he was an auxiliary police officer in Middletown, NJ and taught electrical engineering at Monmouth University. His duties with the DOD included a four-year stint with his family in Seoul, South Korea. Emory and Helen retired to Port Charlotte in the late 1980s, living alongside the Peace River where he happily sailed his sloop. He was a lifelong ham radio enthusiast and became known around town for his bicycle/ham radio setup, which included a helmet with a three-foot antenna. He rode his bicycle 15 miles every day until his double-knee replacement in his mid-80s. His family, friends and neighbors all knew him for his keen sense of humor, his love of animals and a big, booming laugh. Most of all, they remember him for his generosity and kindness. Emory is survived by his children Sandy, Linda (Mike Moore), Emory III "Chip," Stanley, Patty (Rex Morgan), Mary (Yong Kong); grandchildren Heather, Mike, Mandy, Kristen, Carrie, Kate, Lauren, Patrick, Meredith, Rachel and Tyler; and great-grandchildren Jasmine, Ian, Garret and Devin. The family will receive friends during a viewing from 3:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at the John E Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave, Red Bank, NJ. The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at St James Catholic Church, 94 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ, at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Mt Olivet Cemetery, 100 Chapel Hill Road, Red Bank, NJ.
