Roy Von Briesen Jr. peacefully passed away on June 28, 2022. He was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia on September 8th 1931. Raised in various places, he graduated from McKinley Tech in Northeast Washington DC where he first met his wife, Dorothy Virginia Dulin. Most of his adult life Roy lived in Seabrook and Eldersburg, Maryland. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer for almost thirty years and retired from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, in Laurel, Maryland. He participated in satellite, submarine and other National Security projects and authored many technical papers. He obtained a degree from the University of Maryland while working full time and raising a family with his wife. Active in his community and church, he participated as an election judge, HOA Board President, a Smithsonian Docent and Scoutmaster. He led Boy Scout trips to Philmont, a Scout Ranch in the New Mexico Rocky Mountains and other backcountry destinations. He was a long time licensed Amateur Radio Operator and loved shooting sports and competitions. Adventurous by nature he enjoyed camping and RVing, usually to Cape Cod and Canada, for many years. History, science and family were his passions. He is survived by his beloved wife of seventy two years, Dorothy, and children Cheryl Siebeking, Janet Smith, Steven vonBriesen and Virginia Leahy. Son Carl vonBriesen is predeceased. He leaves behind a loving family that includes thirty grand and great grandchildren. A private family service will be held in the future.
