Richard Gustafson, 96, of Brevard, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022. A native of Saylesville, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Henry and Gladys Nelson Gustafson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Laura Clark Gustafson, and their son, John Gustafson.
An avid chess player, amateur radio operator and photographer, Richard's greatest attributes can be traced back to his time spent learning as a Boy Scout, and then later becoming a Scout Master, first in Indiana and then in Brevard where he helped to shape the lives of any number of young men with the outdoor hikes and adventures of scouting.
Surviving Richard is his son, Thomas Mark Gustafson (Cathy); grandchildren: Eric Gustafson (Chelsea), Thomas Craig Gustafson, Daniel Gustafson, Meredith Gustafson Gburek (Thomas), Sean Gustafson (Sydney) and Amy Gustafson; great-grandchildren: Arthur Gustafson, Avery Gustafson, Darion Avery, Israel Avery and Griffin Gburek; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Gustafson.
A Memorial Service to honor Richard Gustafson will be held at a later date.
