"Len" On July 22, 2016, one of Pinellas County's well-known Ham radio Operators and Electronic Technicians went silent.
Leonard Edward Smith, Ham Call letters K4BDP, was born Aug. 30, 1939 and worked in the Electronics and Communications Industries in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties for over 60 years. He died at his home in Seminole after a short illness. He was 77 years old.
He is survived by his wife Ellen C. Smith; his sons, David Smith and Darren Smith; granddaughter, Robyn Lynn; grandsons, Thomas George and Chase. He is also survived by his sister, Georgine Hillgenberg of Destin; daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Ann-Maria.
He attended Tampa Elementary, high schools and graduated from Brewster Technical School in 1959.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 127 in Clearwater.
Len's career included Leader Electronics, Karl's TV in St. Petersburg, Ray's Amateur Radio and AES in Clearwater, as manager. He retired from Chester's Electronics in Largo in 2012.
A Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 11 am at the Good Samaritan Church, 6085 Park Blvd. in Pinellas Park, 33781.
