First Call: KN4CNU in 1959
Joey was the daughter of Earnest and Dora Evetts and was born June 3, 1927 in Kempston England. Her homeplace was affectionately called The Orchard, because of the many fruit trees that grew there. During her childhood, her family moved to nearby Bedfordshire England where the family took frequent trips to the beach. During WWII, Joey met Donald Victor Goodin, an American airman serving in the 8th Air Force with the 306 Bomber Group at Thurleigh field. After a short courtship, the two were married on June 27, 1944. As the war ended, Joey left her homeland to be with Don in Oak Ridge, TN where Don worked with the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) on the security patrol. Joey started work at the K-25 Uranium Enrichment Plant issuing and tracking dosimetry for plant workers. Don was called back to military service in the Korean conflict while Joey remained at home. After Don returned home from Korea, they adopted their only son, Donald Victor Goodin II. While in Oak Ridge, Joey and Don became active in the Covenant Presbyterian Church where she sang in the chancel choir and participated with the women's circle group. Don served as a church deacon and an elder. Joey later joined the staff at the Proffits Department store in Oak Ridge, where she performed accounting duties and announced store sales. Joey spent her free time knitting lovely sweaters, afghans, and winter hats for people. She also loved working in her yard planting and arranging her flower beds. Joey was a good cook, known for her pot roasts, lasagna, Yorkshire pudding, and English Trifle. She loved all of her friends in Oak Ridge and particularly enjoyed her English Ladies group that met regularly to enjoy a cup of tea. After Don passed away in 1993, Joey volunteered her time at the Oak Ridge Memorial Hospital. She later moved to Chattanooga, to live at The Terrace. She loved the Terrace staff and appreciated all her many friends there. She loved her family and particularly enjoyed visits from her grandchildren Emily, Robert and his wife Anna. Her faith and her spirit will live on with all that knew her.
She is survived by her brother, Don Evetts who resides with his wife, Joyce in Kempston, England. Other family includes a number of nieces and nephews that reside in the Oak Ridge area and in England. Immediate family members include her son and his wife, Don and Noma Goodin, her grandchildren, Emily and Robert Goodin (wife Anna).
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 pm at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Clinton, TN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to: The Terrace, 1005 Mountain Creek Road, Chattanooga, TN. 37405.
Arrangements by Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace.
