K4FZU Ronald L. 'Ron' Perrett Valrico, FL QCWA # 36990 Chapter 195 |
QRA: First Licensed as a 10th grader, thanks to CW Elmers W8BXA / K8JLK, in Nov of 1962 - WN8FZU.. I mowed lawns with a real-type push-mower.to earn the $25 for an olde tired BC-348R.. Then, disassembled a collection of junked TV's, for parts to build a 30 watt CW rig. My Elmer gifted me a xtal for 3709Khz and the neighbors let me droop my dipole between their trees (city lot only 40 ft wide). I couldn't afford coax, so it was fed with strung together zip-cords and an olde pancake flat-coil tuner - repurposed from a scrap 30's barn-top radio. Novice for a year, then technician. Finally got my code speed up to 13wpm in early 1965 for the General.. I went Advanced as soon as it was available, and finally the Extra in 1971. Ah, Good memories; as well as the great pleasure in since meeting so many other Amateurs in this world-wide great fraternal group. Best of73's, and thanks for looking - Ron
