Everyone liked John Wallace.
There was simply no way or anything to keep anyone from liking him.
As John grew up in the church, he was surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. His mother, Hattie, was a member of the Shook family wich has contributed so much to the growth of the congregation. Many current members can trace their roots to the Shook family.
John fit right in with his church and participated in many activities. When the congregation decided to construct a new sanctuary, John was selected as Building Fund treasurer. A separate account for the Building Fund had been set up to separate construction from general operating expenses of the church. This was no short-term commitment. Funds were first accumulated and invested until they were sufficient to obtain a loan and begin construction. During construction, he dispersed the funds as building progressed and then maintained note payments until the mortgage was retired some thirteen years later.
In later years, arthritis took a toll on John's mobility. He maintained his independence and was quick to let ushers know he was still able to get to the altar on his own. He was a ham radio operator for many years and enjoyed his increased time with his hobby. Once when asked how he was able to get so many new radios, he replied that had made a habit of carrying a radio with him each time he left the house or came back in and so he could get them in undetected.
Everyone liked John Wallace.
