Lieutenant Commander (USN, Retired) Wayne Coker Spearman, 74, resident of 219 Chatham Drive, husband of Amelia Kennemore Spearman, died August 16, 2011 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Chappells, July 12, 1937, he was a son of the late William Elbert and Katie Coker Betts Spearman.

Mr. Spearman was a graduate of Newberry College and William Carey University and received two Master's Degrees from the University of Mississippi.

He was a US Navy Supply Corp officer having served in the Vietnam War and retired after 21 years of service.

Mr. Spearman was a member of Chappells Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two sisters-in-law, Marion Spearman of Saluda and Betty Kennemore Nix of Waterloo and his beloved cat, Me-Maw.

Mr. Spearman was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Louie and Buddy Spearman and a sister, Mildred Long.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday at Chappells Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Enlow, Dr. Tony Hopkins and Rev. Blake Kendrick officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in the Chappells Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Stoudmire, Bill Spearman, James Kennemore, Philip Tinsley, Jay Blackman and Ben Spearman.
Honorary escort will be James A. Kennemore, Jr., Rick Riley, Ed Harmon and Ed Morgan.

The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 10:00 AM Saturday.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 8:00 Friday evening.
