Chapter 49
|
I am the ARRL SE Division DXAC since January 2010.
I have been licensed since 1957 and have a wife and three children. My interests are Dxing, Contesting, and old boatanchors. I am active on 160, 40, 17, 12, and 10 including 29MHz AM. I also operate 15 and 20 when the other bands are slow. I am retired from contesting but don't be surprised if I call you for a QSO.
My primary station is a pair of old Yaesu FT980's with an AL-82 Amplifier.. I use an Icom IC-740 with a 8877 Amplifier as the main back up rig. I have a Hammarlund HQ-120, HQ-129X,and a HQ-110/HC-10 Converter as my boatanchor poition.. I have a FT-950 that I plan to use on 6 meters and psk/RTTY. The main antenna is a KT-34XA at 76 feet . For 40 and 17 I have a Cushcraft 2 el 40 at 82 feet. For 12 I have a W9PNE X beam at 71 feet. I have two Mor-Gain vertical dipoles for 80/75 and a Carolina 80 beam as all band back up. I have a 5 el modified cushcraft 6 meter on the roof that is planned for 6. I have used a 80 meter half square on 60 meters but currently not on that band now. I have a Spi-Ro 160 dipole in test position that I plan to mount as a dipole l with the bottom 20 feet off the ground. .
My DXCC count is over 300 on all bands except for 160 (168)and 30 meters (do not operate). I reached the top of the honor roll in 1982 and finally made it back by confirming BS7H. My DXCC count is 378. I even have 263 DXCC entities confirmed on AM phone mostly from my first few years of operating...I retired as the Director of the CQ 160 Contests in March 2008 having served for 25 years with 16 as the Director.
My old call, K5MDX,is used by the Magnolia DX Association and is often active in contests
