Mr. Albert Lyle Macklin, 92, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Clemmons Village II. Mr. Macklin was born June 24, 1920 in Forsyth County to the late Harold L. and Isma Stultz Macklin.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean Conflict and was on the first ship to enter Tokyo Bay at the signing of the peace treaty ending WW II.

He organized reunions with German submarine crew that his ship sank 50 years earlier during WW II.

His hobbies included reading, photography, Ham radio, travel, astronomy, gourmet cooking and military history. He made the best homemade blueberry syrup and waffles on the planet.

Mr. Macklin volunteered in Raleigh teaching people how to read and was an active Kiwanis member until a few months ago.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Macklin Fowler.

Mr. Macklin is survived by his wife, Margaret Fowler Macklin of Winston-Salem, NC; son, George Dana Macklin of Marietta, GA; daughter, Margaret Macklin Hopkins of Elmhurst, IL; brothers, Ronald Macklin and wife, Margaret of Winston-Salem, NC, and Theodore Gordon Macklin of Reno, NV; grandchildren, William Dana Haake, Timothy V. Macklin, Dana Graves Macklin and Thomas C. Macklin; and ten great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with military rites will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Craig Ford officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Thursday at Salem Funeral Home, Main St. Chapel.
