Elmer H. "Bud" Sipe, Jr., (K4MVM) age 82 of Athens passed away Friday, July 23, 2010. A native of Knoxville, former resident of Spring City and Chattanooga, he was a former resident of Athens and moved back eight years ago.

A son of the late Elmer H. Sr., and Helen Arp Sipe, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Christopher Baines and a sister, Helen Nelson.

A member of the First Baptist Church of Athens, he was a former member of Meridan Sun Lodge #50 F.&A.M. and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy. An avid sailor, he was a former Commodore of the Privateer Yacht Club of Chattanooga, where he and his wife lived for 10 years. He had served as Editor of the Athens Press Newspaper, the Daily Post Athenian, and Chattanooga Times. He was a marketing specialist with Preston Inc. of Cleveland and Richard Industries Advertising Firm.

Survivors,Wife of 64 years, Marie Byrd Sipe of Athens; 2 daughters & sons-in-law, Karen & David Perry of Athens and Teresa & Hal Coleman of Roswell, Georgia. Four grandchildren and spouses, Tonesa Cawood of Niota, Tritina and Phillip Forde of Oak Ridge, Talania and Jeff Cook of Knoxville, and Greg and Lynnette Baines of Athens; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan Baines, Elijah Baines, Alex Cook, Garrett Cook, Cameron Cook, Brady Cook, and Aspen Cook.

Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Wright officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 pm to 1:45 P.M. at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home prior to the service.

The family would like to express a very special thank you to Life Care of Athens and Dr. William Bowers for the care that they provided.
