Retired Veterinarian LOUISVILLE, Ga. - Dr. Julian Lamar Veatch, age 85 of Louisville, Georgia, died Sunday, August 24, 2008, in the Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, GA, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 27, 2008 in the Louisville Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery. Dr. Veatch was born in Atlanta on June 30, 1923, to the late Jesse William& Julia Kinsey Veatch. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Philippines during World War II. He graduated from Emory University in 1952 with a Bachelors of Science, and from University of Georgia in 1953 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He moved to Louisville in 1955 to establish his veterinary practice, retiring in 1986. Dr. Veatch served the people of Louisville and Jefferson County as a member of the Jefferson County Library Board for 20 years, as the Jefferson County Coroner for 34 years, and as Mayor of Louisville for 28 years. He also served on the CSRA Planning Board and the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Veatch was a member of Louisville United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Louisville Lions Club, a member of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association, a Mason and a member of Stonewall Lodge 98 F&AM. Dr. Veatch was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elinor Rees Veatch, and is survived by 2 sons Julian Lamar Veatch, Jr. and wife Carol, of Johns Creek, GA, Larry William Veatch and wife Patricia of Newberry, FL., 3 grandsons, David Lee Veatch, of Atlanta, Andrew William Veatch of Newberry, Fl., Ryan Alexander Veatch of Newberry, FL., granddaughter Melanie Veatch Frank and husband Daniel of Atlanta. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Jefferson County Library at 306 E. Broad Street, Louisville, GA 30434 or to Southwest Hospice at 7225 Lester Road, Union City, GA 30291.
