William "Bill" J. Cooey passed the evening of Friday, May 16, 2014. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and worked for many years at Monsanto. Bill was well known for his woodcarving, which he displayed for many years at the Greater Gulf Coast Arts Festival. He also taught woodcarving at the John C. Campbell Folk School and has his works in the collections of the Smithsonian Institute as well as the University of West Florida. Bill is survived by his wife, Sue; his son, Julian Cooey; and his two grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 11 AM at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Pastor Joe Prestridge officiating. Interment will follow in Bayview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 AM until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Bill's name.
