Walter Bailey - Johnson City, TN
Walter "Butch" Howard Bailey, 72, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was a New Tazewell, TN native and son of the late Samuel B and Lyndon Elizabeth Buis Bailey. Mr. Bailey graduated from Claiborne County High School in 1961 and graduated from University of Tennessee in 1966 with his Masters in engineering. Mr. Bailey retired from Texas Instruments after 32 years as an electrical engineer, and was a consultant for Creation Technologies for 7 years. In his spare time, Mr. Bailey was a licensed amateur radio operator (K4RWP) for 60 years. He also loved genealogy, as well as repairing and restoring cars.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 38 years, Arlinda Collier Bailey, of Johnson City; two sons, Walter Edward Bailey, of Knoxville, and William Samuel Bailey, of Johnson City; two sisters, Rebecca Benedict and husband Joe, of Knoxville, and children Keith Benedict and Stacey Wiseman; and Lynda Coan and husband Jim, of Knoxville; four brothers-in-law, Derrel Collier and wife Sonja, Douglas Collier and wife Rebecca, Ronald Collier and wife Susan, and Richard Collier; one sister-in-law, Annette Clark and husband Randy; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
The family of Walt Bailey will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, February 15, 2016 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in Johnson City. Honorary pallbearers will be Claiborne County High School, class of 1961. Family and friends are asked to meet at Irish Memorial Gardens in New Tazewell, TN for 11:00 am graveside services on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society (www.LLS.org, 888-557-7177) or to the American Radio Relay League Foundation General Scholarship Fund on behalf of K4RWP (860-594-0200).
