INGRAM, DAVID, K4TWJ, passed away January 20, 2010. He was an amateur radio operator for over 50 years and had written over 25 books and over 1,000 articles and columns for amateur radio magazines worldwide. David will be laid to rest Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Kosciusko, MS at Parkway Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandra Webster Ingram. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

I started in Amateur Radio at a very young age and learned electronics "hands-on" style. I enjoy all areas of amateur radio today--especially CW, QRP , DXing and satellites. I have worked in radio, TV and microwave engineering, and have designed several unique circuits and mini rigs. I taught college electronics and hold 3 degrees in Applied Electronic Technology plus an Amateur EXTRA class license and Radar Endorsed FCC First Phone/GROL license. I was a pioneer in SSTV and assisted several world areas in becoming operational in video communications. As of 2006, I have written over 800 articles/columns and 28 books on all aspects of amateur radio. I now write 3 columns in CQ Magazine plus articles for RadCom of the UK, 100 Watts of Thailand, SARL of South Africa and other international ham magazines. My latest book (The World of Keys) features CW instruments like few people have ever seen. In addition to amateur radio, I am presently researching Quantum Physics and Radio Astronomy, and developing several definitive theories on electronic time travel based on matter transducers, light speed accelerators and Einstein's theory of relativity.

CQ Magazine Columnist Dave Ingram, K4TWJ (SK) (Jan 20, 2010) -- Dave Ingram, K4TWJ, who penned the "World of Ideas" and "How It Works" columns in CQ Magazine, passed away Wednesday, January 20, from complications due to a heart attack late last year. He was 67. A writer and columnist at CQ since 1981, Ingram -- an ARRL member -- began his career at the magazine writing the amateur television "World of Video" column that later morphed into the "World of Ideas" column that covered code keys, stealth antennas, building "new vintage" tube gear, mobiling and more. Ingram also served as CQ's QRP Editor. "His enthusiasm for whatever caught his interest was contagious and spread widely through his informal, yet educational writing style," recalled CQ Managing Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU. Ingram also wrote for RadCom -- the Radio Society of Great Britain's member journal -- and other international ham magazines. Funeral arrangements are pending. -- Information provided by CQ Magazine

Dave Ingram brought more pleasure to my 39 years in ham radio than anything or anyone else. One time he wrote of a radio set powered by hot sauce whose chemical effect provided a voltage. I wrote to Dave for more details as my daughter wanted to use the idea in a junior high science project. Dave wrote back with all the details we needed.
Dave single-handedly, in my opinion, popularized the economical, minimalist form of "QRP" (low-power) operating, opening and legitimizing a ham pursuit affordable to all. I can't belive he's gone. It was only the week before Christmas that I was in touch with another ham to order a radio kit of parts Dave wrote of in a recent column.
I thank Sandra for sharing him with us for all these years and I will never forget him. To you Dave, 73 my friend.
