KING Herbert Roswell King, Jr., age 80, a lifetime resident of Jacksonville, FL died on Thursday, October 18, 2001. (He used his middle name of Roswell during his school years changing to his first name Herbert or Herb during his adult life.)
He was preceded in death on 11/22/93 by his wife of 46 years Marion Elouise Messina King, formerly of Apalachicola, FL.
Herb was a 1940 graduate of old St. Josephs Academy, Jax, and was a Navy veteran of WW II, 1942-1946, having served at the Office of Naval Officer Procurement, Jax; Amphibious Training Command, Camp Pendleton, CA; and Admiral Chester W. Nimitz CinCPac Staff at both Pearl Harbor and Guam. He was employed in 1946 by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, Jax., and after various company name changes and 34 years service he retired from CSX in 1980 as Regional Supervisor-Diesel Locomotive Repair Parts Control. He is a former member of old Holy Rosary Catholic Church and has been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since 1975. Other memberships included American Legion Post 137; as ham radio operator K4YDE he was a member of the ARRL-American Radio Relay League; NOFARS-North Florida Amateur Radio Society, and the Quarter Century Wireless Assoc.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie Belair (Paul), Ocala, Terry Jeffords (Lewis), and Donna Jestes; one son Michael J. King (Lynn) all of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sister, Norma Jean King Clifton of Uvalda, GA.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, October 22, 2001, 11:00 AM at JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS, Garden of the Good Shepard, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL with the Rev. Fr. Victor Narivelil of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Jax., officiating.
