Married to childhood sweetheart, W4SOD. Sons Joe K4ZEL and Rusty WB4WTY. Joe was ambushed, robbed, and murdered on a Christmas eve. None of us have been active on ham bands since losing Joe. Rusty is under care of a doctor and I have had a minor stroke due to the trauma of losing Joe. He was killed by a career felonist who had committed felonies since 1980 and was on the street due to actions of a judge who admits to accepting contributions from organization of which the killer is a member. We are promoting www.jail4judges.org to try to get laws enacted so that disreputable judges can be held responsible for their misdeeds. Mildred "Tootsie" Howell, victim of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 10:20 AM. SK

Mildred "Tootsie" Stone Howell, 77, of Folly Beach, went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2009. Tootsie was born in Dillon, a daughter of the late Zingle Lee Stone and Mandy Nettles Stone. She was a 50 year member of Folly Beach Baptist Church where her funeral will be held on Monday, March 9, 2009 at two o'clock, with the Reverend Boyd Broad officiating. Visitation will be at the church from twelve (noon) until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens next to her son, Joe, who owned Best Bet Gun and Pawn Shop. Tootsie attended school in Dillon and was employed by Carolina Mills for a brief time and later by Western Electric Company. She was a licensed amateur radio operator with call sign W4BTP. She loved church, Blue Grass festivals, the Ladson Flea Market and working in her flower garden. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Pauline Sweat and Mezelle Ellis; brothers, Albert, Earl, Ervin, Jimmie, Oda, Raymond and Roy; and her son, Joe. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph E. "Eddie" Howell; a daughter, Susie Levisen; a son, Russell Howell of Folly Beach; a grandson, Christopher Howell of Charleston; a dear sister-in-law, Elda Mae McCutchan of Dillon; her beloved puppy, Missy Girl; and a host of long time friends, especially Diane Cunningham and Betty Martin. Special thanks to Amerisys and to Winyah Hospice for the professional and loving care given her and to physicians, Dr. Jennifer Nelson and Dr. David Stickler.
