Donald Bryan Hall was born in DeKalb, Texas on September 9, 1932 to Allie Mae Johns Hall and Jesse Bryan Hall. He died in Floyd, Texas on June 10, 2019 at the age of 86. He graduated from DeKalb High School as the valedictorian of his class, going on to attend East Texas State University and graduate from A&M College Station with his BSEE. Later, he earned his MSEE at Southern Methodist University. In 1952 he made the decision that would define the rest of his life: he married his hometown sweetheart Jane Warren and took her back to Aggieland.
After graduation and a brief career at Bell Labs, he was called up to serve in South Korea by the Army. The couple was homesick for Texas, so Don joined Texas Instruments where he worked in various capacities, including as TI professor at his beloved A&M, for almost 40 years. His work took him all over the world, eventually leading to the family moving to Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. For over 75 years Don communicated with the world through his passion for amateur radio, first as W5OBS, then K5AQ. His work with TI allowed him to bring the radio world to life. Almost 13 years ago, Don and Jane moved to Floyd to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He served on the Caddo Basin Water Board and as a deacon at Highland Terrace Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday School class.
Don is survived by his wife, children Catherine A. Hall of Greenville, Larry D. Hall (Andrea) of Richardson, TX, and Bryan W. Hall (Regina) of Nashville, TN, grandchildren Steven A. Hall (Stacey), Jonathan L. Hall (Amanda), Dr. Daisy Blagg (Joel), James M. Kneeland (Sarah), Dr. Elisabeth J. Kneeland, Hunter W. Hall (Rebecca), Dr. Harrison R. Hall, Kelcie H. Thomas (Matt), and six greatgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Ridgecrest Church on June 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
