Henry Aloysius Garon was born September 9, 1927 in McCall, Louisiana and died Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Chateau de Notre Dame in New Orleans, LA. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie Adele Reynaud Garon; his children, Michael Garon (Bic), Jeanne Taylor (Creed) and Patrick Garon (Denise); his grandson, Richard Garon; his sister, Jeanne LeBlanc (the late Richard); his brother, Valery Garon (Behre) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile Garon and Jeanne Rodriguez Garon; his son, Timothy Garon; his brothers, Allen Garon and Earl Garon and his sister, Rosemary Joffrion (surviving husband, Virgil). He was a graduate of Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, LA, Loyola University in New Orleans, LA and Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN. After graduating he worked several years as an oil well surveyor in South Louisiana. He was a Professor of Physics at Loyola University for 39 years and a recipient of the Dux Academicus Award as Outstanding Professor. During these years he produced a series of television programs about teaching science to children and wrote two books; The Cosmic Mystique and The Wonderers. In 1980 he was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, serving in Holy Name of Jesus and St. Henry Parishes and ministering to homeless men at the Ozanam Inn. He was also a proud Eagle Scout and Radio Ham. Deacon Garony's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Chateau de Notre Dame Apartments. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6367 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, LA on Wednesday morning, May 5, 2021 beginning at 9:45 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM. Graveside services and interment will be on Thursday afternoon, May 6, 2021 at 1:30 PM at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery in St. Benedict, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Community of Deacons, 7887 Walmsley Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70125 or to Loyola University in Deacon Garony's memory.
