K5OQ, Richard Rhodes, was first licensed in 1949 as W4YQF. I later held WØTBS (Minnesota), W5VWL, KH6IO (on Kauai), and AA5OQ.

I lived, worked, or traveled in about 30 countries, so it is logical that I spend a great deal of time ragchewing with DX stations. My other interests include, or have included, guns, private flying, photograpy, and of course computers.

I am a law graduate, a former Marine, and former Federal agent. In the business world, I have been in marketing, editing, and publishing. I have written one novel, and for nearly 20 years have contributed articles to various newspapers and magazines. Although I have worked DXCC+ in both Hawaii and in Texas, I have never submitted the cards. One of these days.

For those, especially DX, who worked me over the last 15 years at my ranch near Honey Grove, TX, (KH6IO/5, AA5OQ, K5OQ) with the 6 elements and KW+ amps, I sold that property. My station is now at my home and much more modest. The new boxes are an IC-756 Pro III, an Ameritron ALS-600 solid-state amp, and a Cushcraft R-6000 vertical. For now, at least. Mostly hanging out on 17 Meters these days.
