Clyde Doyce Hester, 86, died December 19, 2013. He was born in Cabot, Arkansas on January 13, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Murnie E. (Campbell) Hester, and his son, Phillip D. Hester. He married Melva Sue Johnson on September 7, 1952 in Malvern, Arkansas. He worked for Reynolds Metals Company for 40 years, from 1949 to 1953 at the Jones Mills Plant in Arkansas, and until 1989 at the San Patricio Plant near Corpus Christi where he retired as Laboratory & Environmental Manager. He also served as a consultant for Reynolds International in Scotland and Norway during this period. His hobbies were genealogy and amateur radio and his call sign was K5TX. He had served as President of the Corpus Christi Amateur Radio Club, Quarter Century Wireless Association, and Portland Kiwanis Club. He was Past Chairman of the following Committees: Technical of the Corpus Christi Board of Trade, Environmental Monitoring & Analysis of the Aluminum Association, Primary Aluminum Environmental Test Methods of the American Society for Testing & Materials. He was an Emeritus Member of the American Chemical Society and Senior Member of the American Society of Testing & Materials. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviation electronics technician. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1949. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Melva Sue (Johnson) Hester of Arkadelphia, daughter-in-law, Joan Hester, and grandson, Will Hester, of Austin, Texas; brother-in-laws William M. Johnson and Elvin Johnson of Arkadelphia, and J.D. Johnson of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday, December 23rd in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel with Dr. Lee McGlone officiating. The family will greet friends prior to service time. Burial will be in the Shadowlawn Cemetery in Malvern. |
