Vestal Ulmer King, 88, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at a local hospital.
Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Vestal was born April 21, 1919, in Tira to Ida and Joe King. He was a World War II veteran in the 36th Division in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1977 from the Fort Worth Police Department after 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Vree Olen King; and his first wife, Nancy King.
Survivors: Wife of 12 years, Naomi King; sister, Gladys Bostick of Azle; nieces, Geraldine Hall and husband, Tom, of DeLeon, Frances King Brown and husband, Tom, of Bayfield, Colo., Kathy King Schmidt and husband, Werner, of Aledo and Charlie Ann Anderson of Azle; numerous other family members and friends. Though he had no children of his own, he is survived by Steven Schmidt of Aledo, whom he claimed as his grandson.
