Laurence G. Russell passed away on September 2, 2017, aged 80. A Navy veteran, Larry had a lifelong interest in amateur radio and computers. His skill with computers eventually led him to a long career in the banking industry, working with multiple institutions including Fourth National Bank, Mena State Bank in Mena, Arkansas, and Arkansas Valley State Bank in Broken Arrow, OK. Larry was also an avid volunteer, spending many years working with the American Red Cross, specializing in disaster relief work. He eventually became a member of the board, and was a chapter chairman. Additionally he volunteered with the Wagoner County Sherriff.s Department. Larry also had a lifelong love affair with amateur radio. He received his HAM ticket in 1959 and in spite of his many moves and travels, always managed to have a DX station up and active. Larry worked over 200 countries in DX and won multiple awards in international competitions. He enjoyed trying any new technology associated with amateur radio and was active in his local chapter. His love of HAM radio was so pervasive, he influenced both his wife and daughter to get their tickets as well.
My Handle is Larry & I retired in the year 2000 from a career in Banking. I like to work DX and Contests on all bands. You can find me on the high end of 160 meters SSB most evenings near 1.975 to 1.990kc. or on 40 meter CW around 7.100 where I am trying to improve my CW skills. |
