I have been an active ham for nearly 60 years. I love working DX and collecting paper QSL cards. I still have all my old log books and QSLs going back to my first QSO as a Novice. I love amateur radio. It changed my life in 1954 and gave me a big advantage in school and in the workplace.
I received my Novice license (KN6ICS) on October 14, 1954, at the age of 14. A few months later I upgraded to Technician (K6ICS) and in January 1956 I passed the 13 wpm code test and became a General. I currently hold an Extra Class license (20 wpm, thank you). My brother, Barrie K6ICQ, at age 11, received his Novice license (KN6ICQ) at the same time. He currently holds an Advanced Class. In 1975, my wife Margaret, received her Technician license and a few years later upgraded to General. Her call is WA6OUD. My daughter Christy is KE6WWC and her husband Aaron is KF6KKY. My son Brian is KJ6YQV. I also hold the old FCC First-Class Commerical Radio Telephone License with the RADAR Endorsement. I hold the calls G5AJG and FØGPY. I have operated as XEØCS, XØ0ICS, and other call signs.
I have a BA & MA in Electronics/Photography (CSULA), a PhD in Industral Management (UCLA), and am a registered Professional Engineer.
I have always worked in Aerospace Electronics doing Testing, Component Engineering, and Radiation Effects Testing, Engineering, and Consulting. I am currently semi-retired and consulting as ICS Electronics Company.
