From county records, Hal Roberts Heywood was born on August 28, 1927 in California to Elmer C. Heywood of Michigan and Bernice Roberts of Utah. He married Catherine Marie Healy and was president of a communications company for 40 years. He lived in San Bernardino and died from a heart attack. He had four sons, Joel, Hal, Andrew and Peter and two daughters.
He was at one time the owner of Heywood's Fancy Ice Cream Shop on Highland Avenue and also of Heywood Company Outdoor Advertising Inc.. He belonged to Rotary, Native Sons of the Golden West American Radio relay League and Order of Elks.
