First Call: WØCBH
Red was a Ham Radio Operator. He studied for and received his license after World War 2. His call sign was WØCBH and he used to say it Campbell's Beer Hall. His brother Dale Clyde Campbell had his license also and his call sign was WØSUP or soapy. There were both active in emergency communications while living in North Platte. Dad would call Dale on the "air" and they would talk for hours. Red was active after the war (WW2) in receiving and passing on telephone traffic from U. S. service men stationed overseas in Japan during the "occupation time", and during the Korean War. They would get messages sent by Morse code and pass them on to local families of the service men stationed overseas. He also participated in several weather related emergencies. When he moved to Nampa Idaho while working for Union Pacific Railroad, he had to change his callsign to K7NWC. He was active through most of his life in ham radio.
