Chuck Samuel, K7NWM, passed away June 29, 2020 after a long battle with Pancreatic cancer. He was born in Portland, Oregon on July 13, 1935. He earned his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon during 1956 and 1957. After college he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1968 as a Doctor of Optometry and Radio operator. Chuck worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at Tektronix from 1968 to 1971. In 1971 he opened his own Optometric practice. He served as the Executive Secretary of the Oregon State Board of Optometry from 1977-1983. In 1987 he joined Kaiser Permanente N.W. Division as the Chief of Optometry from which he retired in 1999.
Chuck received his first amateur license in 1958. He was a life member of Oregon Tualatin Valley ARC, Western Arizona Radio Club member, ARRL Volunteer Examiner, and achieved the ARRL DXCC and WAS awards.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 64 years, Donna, children, Chris (Terri) Samuel, Sheri (Tim) Jones and Marianne (Scott) Stone; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Robert (Terry) Samuel.
