Glenn "Gary" Litteer, 79, passed away Aug. 19, 2019, in Tacoma with his wife at his side. He was born Jan. 8, 1940, in Palmdale, Calif., the son of Glenn and Ruby Litteer.
Gary grew up in northern California where he graduated from Portola Junior/Senior High School in 1958, and later from Oregon State University in 1973. After serving briefly in the United States Navy and Coast Guard, Gary worked in the electronics industry, became a teacher and found his niche in sales. Gary and his wife, Corene, moved to Calgary, Alberta after they married in 1976. They lived in Calgary, Alberta, Vancouver, B.C., and Port Alberni, B.C., before returning to the U.S. to live in Post Falls, Idaho; Ocean Park, Wash., and then settling in Napavine. Gary owned and operated Gary's Computer Factory and Safe & Warm Storage in Napavine.
His passion was amateur radio, especially designing and testing antennas. He enjoyed going to ham radio swapmeets to find the best bargain. Gary and Corene traveled to many swapmeets throughout Oregon, Washington and British Columbia for several years. He taught classes for the amateur radio license for the Chehalis Valley Amateur Radio Society for a few years. Recently, he talked almost daily to other hams on the weekday morning network or participated in the Sunday morning swapnet. He was an avid reader of technical magazines and books. Gary loved to talk to others about the ham radio hobby, either in person or on the phone. Gary's other hobbies were flying and photography.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Corene; brother, Robert; and children, Patricia Wilcox, Duane Downey, David Downey, Karen McLeod and Linda Brown; and their families.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at Brown Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the ARRL Wilse Morgan (ham radio) Scholarship, information at: cvars.org/fyi.php, or your favorite PBS station.
