Robert N. Hanna passed away on December 10, 2012. He was born in Toledo May 8, 1923, to Marcus and Evelyn Hanna. A 1941 graduate of Scott High School, Bob attended Toledo University for two years, and then transferred to Marquette University where he received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree and a commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve through the Navy's V-12 program during WWII. During WWII Bob served on the USS Montague, AKA-98. After the war, Bob married his wife of 66 years Martha. He continued his service in the U.S. Naval Reserve, retiring after 28 years at the rank of Commander. In his civilian career, Bob worked at Haughton Elevator, Glass Fibers, Kimball Glass, and finally at Libbey Owens Ford Glass company where he worked for 27 years, retiring in 1985. After retirement, he taught steam boiler operator classes, and also served on the Wide Area Networking Technology Advisory Committee at Owens Technical College.
Active in amateur radio for over 55 years, he volunteered to coordinate and provide radio support to many races, marathons, triathlons and soccer tournaments.
Bob was a member of the IEEE, ISA, ARRL, TMRA, GTARA, QCWA, NRA, Adams Conservation Club, MOAA, Navy League, and ROA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Alan and his wife Sandy of Toledo, and a daughter, Kathryn and her husband Bill Hewitt of Gettysburg. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Kathryn Dixon.
The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd at Byrne Rd. on Friday, December 14, 2012, 2-8 p.m. A private interment will be held in St. Rose Cemetery Perrysburg, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio or the Wounded Warriors project.
