Richard Kenneth Phillips, 80, passed away in his sleep on Wednesday morning, Dec. 5, 2001.
Son of Ralph and Lucretia. Mr. Phillips served in World War II. He graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in photography. He lived in Akron for more than 45 years. He worked at Goodyear Aerospace for 20 years, and retired from PPG Industries after more than 10 years. He was active in amateur radio, with the call letters K8CHE, and a charter member of the Goodyear Amateur Radio Club. An avid computer buff until the end, he was a member of the Akron Area Computer Users Group, as well as a part-time wizard. Mr. Phillips was known for his wit and wisdom.
He was preceded in death by son, Michael Kevin, two brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Audrey at the home; daughter, Julia K. Smeiles of Newton Falls; sons, Richard K. Jr. of Cincinnati and John K. of Akron; sister, Julia Roberts of Carmichaels, Pa.; six grandsons, two great-grandsons, and many nieces and nephews.
A decorated veteran of World War II, Mr. Phillips was cremated and interred at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10 Dec 2001.
