Age 87
Died Monday, July 11, 2016, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with his loving family at his side. He was born January 16, 1929, in Port Huron, Michigan, the son of Atlas and Juanita (Wilber) Baggett.
On March 31, 1972, he married Carolyn E. Perkins in Toledo, Ohio, and she survives. Bill was a member of North Prospect Baptist Church in Ypsilanti where he taught Sunday School and was involved with the Royal Ambassadors. He retired from Ford Motor Co. (Ypsilanti Plant) where he was employed as an Inspector and was actively involved with the UAW Local #849 in Ypsilanti.
Bill loved playing Santa Claus at Arborland for many years. He also enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator (Call Letters K8IHX) and going to swap meets with his father and grandson.
Survivors besides his wife include three daughters: Claudia (Craig) Hickman, Juanita Kay (Buddy) Megonnell and Wanda (Kendel Miles) Baggett; step-daughter, Sharon Balduf; eight grandchildren: Daniella Smith, Steven (Katie) Feltner, Ciara Neal, Ericka (Davis) Courtney, Craig Baggett, Meghan Hickman, Sarah Hickman and Katie Hickman; three great grandchildren: Tiffany, Daniel and Ethan; one brother, Robert (Delores) Baggett; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle, Howard and Wanda Jones.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Janowiak Funeral Home with his grandson, Pastor Steven Feltner of Page Ave. Baptist Church in Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Alban Cemetery, Ypsilanti, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
