Rufus Marvin Turner, 91, of Waverly, went home to be with the Lord 8:10 am Saturday, December 26, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born October 18, 1924, in Chillicothe, to the late Rufus and Orpha Johnson Turner. On January 26, 2001, he married the former Betty Jordan who survives.
Also surviving are a son, David (Beverly) Turner, of Grand Rapids, MI; a daughter, Marilyn (Greg) Howe, of Cedarville; stepchildren, Eddie (Mandy) Jordan, of Brooksville, FL, Paul (Heather) Jordan, of Cincinnati and Greg (Kathy) Jordan, of Piketon; grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail Howe; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Tim Turner; a sister, Ramona Charles; and a stepson, Terry Jordan.
Marvin served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from the Chillicothe Gazette and had worked at Huntington Bank. He was a member of Outreach Ministries, Scioto Lodge #6 F&AM, American Legion Post 142, Waverly, VFW Post 108, AMVETS Post 4, American Legion Post 757 and the Pike Pickers. Marvin was a very active member in the Scioto Valley Amateur Radio Club. He was also a long time high school football and basketball official.
Funeral services will be held 1 pm Thursday, December 31, 2015 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Alan Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday at the WARE FUNERAL HOME where a Masonic Service will be held at 7 PM.
