Randall Jerome 'Jerry' Fish, 73, of Romney passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug 11, 2018, holding the hand of his dear friend, Carolyn Bowman.
He was born in Wheeling on Jan 14, 1945, and was the only child of Samuel Randall Fish and Leah Hubbs Fish.
Jerry lived with his parents in Moundsville until May 1958 when his family moved to Romney. Jerry graduated from Romney High School in 1963 and from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1972 with a BA in government. While at Wesleyan, he also completed the requirements for additional BA Degrees in Sociology-Anthropology and Secondary Education (Social Studies).
Jerry served in the US Navy as a Radioman from 1968 to 1971. He worked for Value Engineering Company and Atlantic Research Corporation in Alexandria, Va. Jerry spent most of his working life as a telecommunications technician and test engineer. He was a specialist in TEMPEST/EMI/RFI testing.
Jerry was an avid amateur (ham) radio operator for most of his life. He got his first ham radio license in April 1958. His FCC call sign was K80QL. Jerry was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church.
Jerry is survived by his dear friends, Carolyn Bowman and Wayne Francis, Billi Jo Swauger and husband Jim, Liam Swauger, Hannah Merlavage and Jace Winters, all of Cumberland, and a friend in music, Chris Workman of Fort Myers, Fla.
Friends will be received at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney from 1 to 2 pm Wednesday, Aug 15. Graveside services will follow at Indian Mound Cemetery in Romney at 2:15.
