ATHENS - William "Bill" H. Creighton, Jr. of Athens passed away on April 30, 2017 at the age of 90 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
Bill was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to William H. and Edna (Motch) Creighton. He married Joy (Hale) Creighton on August 17, 1952 in Wilmington, Ohio.
He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Wilmington College and his Master's Degree from the University of Cincinnati.
A professor emeritus of Ohio University, he retired from the Russ College of Engineering and Technology.
He served in the US 3rd Army during the occupation of Germany [Army of Occupation service medal] after World War II.
Bill was a member and served as elder for the First Presbyterian Church of Athens. He also was a volunteer for O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
He was a model train enthusiast and was involved in amateur radio for over 60 years. Bill was an avid wood worker and his family has many items made in his shop.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, William H. (Nancy) Creighton of Oak Park, Illinois, Richard H. (Becky) Creighton of Urbana, Ohio and James M. (Zhao Yudan) Creighton of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan; five grandchildren, Carroll (Sarah) Creighton, Zachary (Kristen) Creighton, Scott Creighton, Christopher (Kelly McNear) Creighton and Jess Creighton; four great-grandchildren, Allyson, Elias, Simeon and Paisley; and his sister, Janet (Louis) Moormeier of Mason, Ohio.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Creighton.
Graveside services by Rev. Robert Martin of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens will be held at the convenience of the family, in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, Ohio.
Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.

I even followed Bill Creighton (K8TUT) to Ohio University, College of Engineering and Technology. We had a blast and he talked me into Grad School and getting my MS in Engineering. I suspect that God put Bill to work immediately after In-Processing and that hopefully, we'll all meet again :-)

To the extent that I have had any DIY/handyman skills at all for the past 52 years, it is because of Mr. Creighton and the other Woodward shop teachers. In a pinch, I could bind a book or make a sheet metal box. The electrical skills have come in the most handy. Does a high school liberal arts education still include shop classes? I suspect not, but somewhere these students are learning how to make protest signs. Sign making is a skill I learned at Woodward helping candidates for class office.

Bill - Mr. Creighton - was the ham radio club advisor. He supported my interest in electronics and ham radio. I spent many study-hall hours in his office, operating the Woodward ham radio station. Last saw him at his home in September 2016. Bill was as good as it gets.
