I got my first ham ticket in 1967 as a novice. Unfortunately I only remained active a year or so at that time. In 1977 I got back into the hobby and got the call WD8RDA and have been active ever since. In 1980 I became KB8VK. After a few tries with vanity calls I settled on K8VL in 2000.
My fixed station compliment includes an Icom IC-756PRO-II, Kenwood TM-V71, DiamondX510 and Carolina Windom 160. I also dabble in "vintage" gear from time to time (so I don't forget how to dip the plate and peak the load!). A mint Kenwood TS-830S with matching VFO are now in the "vintage" operating position (even though they're really not that old by "vintage" standards ).
I'm a member of the Metropolitan Amateur Radio Club, life member ARRL, and life member of Michigan Chapter 10 of the Quarter Century Wireless Association.
Hope to catch you on the air! I frequent the Michigan Wolverine Net (3.935 @ 19:00 Eastern time), the Metropolitan Amateur Radio Club net on 147.220 (N8EDV/R) Sundays at 20:00, and the MARC 2 meter SSB net at 20:30 (Monday through Saturday) on 144.230. I monitor 147.220 (N8EDV/R) most all the time.
