On December 27, 2006, K9AMC, my life-long friend, encourager, and fellow ham became a Silent Key. Kris was a lifetime member of QCWA. From the time I was perhaps 12 years old, Kris never failed to greet me with these words: "Hello, neighbor! Did you get your ticket?" Fifty year later, I was able to call him on the phone and tell him, "Yes neighbor, I got my ticket...and a General at that! He is survived by his wife, Frances (nee Kokotis); sister-in-law, Olga (late Tom) Kourtis; three brothers-in-law: Andrew (Margaret) Kokotis, William (Anne) Kokotis and Constantine Kokotis; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: Christ Sr. and Rose Kovacheff. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL with Father Boris Zabrodsky officiating. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Mr. Kovacheff was a lifelong resident of Lansing, IL. He was a pharmacist and he and his father were the former owners of the Lansing Pharmacy. Mr. Kovacheff graduated from Thornton Fractional High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Japan during WWII and was a ham radio operator and lifetime member of QCWA (Quarter Century Wireless Association).
