Ronald Martin, 79, Clinton, passeed away at 3:30 p.m. on May 13, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018, at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, May 17, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the National Association for Amateur Radio, ARRL, 225 Main Street, Newton Conn. 06111, in memory of K9BJJ, Ron Martin, Advanced Class Operator.
Ronald was born on February 16, 1939, in Charleston, IL, the son of Uriel and Wilma (Butler) Martin. He married Katherine Schaible on January 1, 1960, in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Katherine Martin, Clinton; daughters, Debra Martin, Clinton; Janice (Richard) Rethorst, Benton, IL; grandchildren, Christina Fenton, Weldon; Sheryl (Cheree) Kauffman, Sullivan, IL; Andrea Landers, Decatur; Beth Anne Mitchell, Normal; Heather Mitchell, Lebanon, Tenn., and Anthony Mitchell, Benton, IL; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry Martin, Clinton, and Charles Martin, Sr., Mapleton, IL, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Steven Martin.
Ronald was a 1957 graduate of Clinton Community High School. He retired from General Electric on July 1, 1994, with 34 years of service. Ronald was an amateur radio Advanced Class Operator, K9BJJ. He mentored many new operators in obtaining their âhamâ licenses. Ronald enjoyed traveling in his RV and playing cards with friends and family.
