Robert L. Plumley, call sign K9IEG, believed in serving his country and his community. He could often be heard saying, "I'm doing the best I can with what I've got." At the age of 87, Robert passed into Heaven, on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, Iowa.

Robert was born on April 9, 1926, the son of Frank A. and Lucille (Collinson) Plumley in Fulton, Illinois. He graduated from Fulton High School with the Class of 1944. Robert married Eleanor (Stearns) Plumley on June 22, 1947. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. She passed away August 8, 2011.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He worked as a machinist for eighteen years at Climax and eighteen years at Chemplex. Also he owned a saw sharpening business that he ran out of his home.

Robert was very active in his community. Robert was a veteran who was proud to be a member of the Thomson American Legion Post 1025 and the Savanna VFW Post. He was also on the Thomson Depot Committee and Alderman on the Thomson Village Board. Robert was a member of the Savanna Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and also a member of the 32nd degree and the Eastern Star. He liked being a part of the Palisades Ham Radio Club and his call letters were K9IEG. Robert enjoyed feeding .his livestock. of birds and squirrels in his yard.

Robert will be dearly missed by his son, Guy (Linda) Plumley of Davenport, Iowa; his daughter, Louise (Frank) Duplissis of Flanders, New Jersey; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor and his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Law- Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, Illinois, with Pastor Paul Fritz officiating. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. and Masonic Service at 9:30a.m. Burial will take place at Lower York Cemetery with military rites accorded by both the Thomson American Legion and the Savanna VFW. In lieu of flowers donations may be made toward Parkinson.s Research. The family would like to give a special thanks to the caregivers at Prairie Hills, Mercy Hospital, the Alverno and Theresa Wittbecker.
