Leonard Novara, 81, died Sat., Nov. 11, 1989, in the Jackson County Nursing Home.
He was born in Trapani, Italy, Sept. 30, 1908, the son of Andrew and Marie Barbera Novara. He married Carmeleita Wellman in Lansing, Mich., May 12, 1938. She survives and lives in Murphysboro.
Mr. Novara was a World War II veteran, member of BPOE 572, VFW Post 7190, American Legion 127, DAV 14, Shawnee Amateur Radio Association K9IZE, and Amateur Radio Relay League and St. Andrew's Church. He was active for many years in Murphysboro Civil Defense and its storm warning programs.
Mr. Novara owned and operated Western Auto Associate Store until retirement in Dec. 1973.
Other survivors include four sons, Andrew, Eugene and Charles Novara, all of Murphysboro, and Albert Novara of Huntingtown, Md.; two sisters Ann Abel and Mary Terranova, both of Lansing, Mich., and six grandchildren.
