Jack R. Ekstrom, 72, of North Aurora passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 4, 1945, in Aurora the son of Norman and Margaret (Erickson) Ekstrom. Jack was a graduate of West Aurora High School. He was united in marriage to Helen Bartoszek October 15, 1966, and he owned his favorite car, a red 1963 split window Corvette.
Jack was employed by ARINC, for twenty-eight years until his retirement. Jack's retirement gave him more time to enjoy his many hobbies.
Jack has been a HAM Radio operator, K9JE for 58 years. Jack was a lifetime member of the ARRL and EAA. Jack loved to be involved, help others, donate his time, and aviation.
In 1986, Jack obtained his private pilot license. He later purchased a 1946 J-3 Piper Cub. His love for aviation also led Jack to remote control planes, he was a member of the Barnstormers and the St Charles RC Flying Club.
Jack also enjoyed bowling, movies, traveling to Lake Geneva and St Lucia, also donating his time ushering at the Paramount Theater and Arcada Theater. Jack was a former Parks trustee in Sugar Grove.
Above all Jack was devoted to his family especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife Helen; two children, Julie (Craig) McDonald of Sandwich and Jeffrey (Jackie) Ekstrom, three grandchildren, Tanner McDonald, and Evan and Lynaea Ekstrom; his siblings, Priscilla (Robert) Reiseck, Eileen (Jerry) Coble, and a brother James (Mary) Ekstrom; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his two sisters Mildred Ekstrom, and Darlene Meloun.
Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Moss Family Funeral Home 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church 27 South Edgelawn Drive Aurora, IL 60506.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack's name may be directed to Paramount Theater towards the renovation of new seats or the Arcada Theater Renovation Project or to the ARRL Education fund.

QSL manager for J68AR, J6LNM. My son has my former call K9BQL. Enjoy DXing and contesting. Was first licensed in 1960 as KN9BQL upgraded to Extra class in 1979. Received new call in 1996. Station here consists of a Elecraft K3/100, an Alpha 99 amp and a Cushcraft A3S at 60 feet for 10-15-20 meters and a Butternut vertical for the rest of the bands. Standby station is a Yaesu FT-1000D.
