Chapter 19
|
I'm a retired USAF officer and currently work as a defense contractor doing consulting work on IT project management, enterprise architecture, and IT portfolio management.
I was first licensed KA9IZQ my Junior year of high school, in 1978. I got on the air with my Kenwood TS520S to work on my CW and quickly upgraded to General. I've also held the calls KC9XM as an Advanced and NB9T when I got my Extra in college. My friend Lonnie introduced me to contesting in the 1980 CQWW SSB contest and I've been hooked ever since. Kevin, KS9O (now N4KM), and I operated a bunch of multi-single efforts in the early to mid 80s with some success. After joining the USAF in 1986 I lived and operated from in a bunch of places around the country and the world with the calls 7J7ABV, V73AZ, K9QQ/KH2, and WH7Z. I haven't been very active from my home since retiring from the USAF and moving back to Illinois, but have been lucky to operate some multi-op efforts from K9SD and mostly recently as a semi-regular operator at K9CT.
I have been a member of the Society of Midwest Contesters since it started in the 1980s and am currently on the board. I also manage the plaque program for the NCJ NAQP SSB and CW contests.
