Melba L. Hoss, 65, Topeka, passed away Mon., Mar. 18, 2013 at Midland Hospice House. Melba was born Sept. 23, 1947 in Oswego KS, the daughter of Cecil and Mabel Winters Gillespie. Melba attended Pittsburg State and graduated from Washburn University. On July22, 1967, Melba and Terry Hoss were united in marriage and enjoyed over 45 years together.
She was an examiner for 22 years with SRS and retired in 2010. Melba, KA BAT, was active in many amateur radio organizations and functions. She liked to sew, knit and crochet. Melba was an avid reader and enjoyed water skiing, boating fishing and camping.
She was dearly loved and will be forever missed. Survivors include Melba s husband, Terry Hoss; brothers, David Gillespie (Karen) Olathe KS, and Kenneth Gillespie (Nancy) Overland Park KS; sisters-in-law, Candy Reed (Phil), Kansas City, Penelope Bartlett, Wichita KS; and seven nieces and one nephew. Melba was preceded in death by her parents.
Family will greet friends from noon until 1 p.m. Thursday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to YLRL Scholarship Fund (Young Lady Radio League), sent in care of the funeral home.
