Karen K. Schultz
January 15, 1943 - May 18, 2017
Deep sadness prevails at the passing of a passionate, dedicated woman and loving wife. Karen Kay Schultz left her human and feline communities unexpectedly on the morning of May 18, 2017 at Cherry Creek Nursing Center. Karen was born in Denver on January 15, 1943. She retired from Qwest Communications after 35 years of dedicated service. Karen is survived by her brothers, Kelly and Kevin, of Washington state. Her soul mate, Glenn E. Shultz, preceded her in death on October 23, 2012. They were married for 30 years and shared interests in ham radio, operating a fully licensed station in the Aurora area and training many operators. Karen and Glenn managed the Mile High Volunteer Emergency Team who maintain emergency communication equipment and procedures. They were together Official Observer Coordinators ( OOC ) for Colorado ham radio. Another shared interest was gardening, tending a nationally recognized prize winning day lily garden of over 3000 varieties. Karen was also dedicated to helping cats in need. Proceeds from annual open garden showings aided cat shelters in Aurora. She also graciously accepted needy cats into her home. Karen was known locally as The Cat Lady. Donations will be accepted at Angels With Paws Cat Adoption and Shelter. Donations may also be made to Aurora Repeater Association & Mile High Volunteer Examiners Team.

A brief public internment and gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 3PM at Montview Boulevard Presbyterain Church in the Garden Columbarium at 1980 Dahlia St., Denver, 80220. The public is invited to intend. A brief gathering of Karen's cat-loving friends will be held at The Cat Lady's Garden on Memorial Day at 11 AM. Rest in peace KAØCDN and WØIJR.

I was first licensed in 1978. I met my husband Glenn, WØIJR on 6 meters. We are OOC for Colorado. We also manage the Mile HI VE Team and have given exams monthly in Denver since 1984. Listen for our beacon on 50.065 where it has operated unattended since January of 1983. I am retired from Qwest Communications. My other hobbies are gardening and my cats.
