Location: I am currently in my RV near Sanger, TX. My XYL is working as an Amazon Camperforce Associate in the Haslet, TX Fulfilment Center along side the KIVA Robots in the warehouse. I am working Amateur Radio as portable 5 and my QRZ location map is currently correct.
I was lightly introduced to "ham radio" by my Uncle Bob Buehl, W6MFX, back in the late 40's in NE Ohio. My curiosity was peaked as a 8-10 year old but I never pursued ham radio back then. Later while attending Purdue Extension in Ft Wayne, IN, a class mate named Dick Ross K9TJW got me interested in 6 meters AM with a Heathkit "Sixer" nicknmed the Benton Harbor lunch box. Still no license.
After school, work, family and life in general, I finally obtained my Technician+ ticket in Denver, Colorado in December, 1978. I was very active on VHF/UHF and especially in the Weather, Severe Weather and Amsat communities. My wife, KAØTXX, and I were involved with Oscar 13 as the Denver transportation/paperwork liaison team. During the 1980s, I often worked "ham radio" from "tower cranes" with me sitting as high as 800 feet in the sky over downtown Denver. Sometimes I had a rubber duckie on an HT and sometimes with home made 1/4 wave 2 meter vertical using a Yaesu FT-227 with a Mirage 80 watt amplifier. Many enjoyed the contacts from the "sky" covering a 3 state area
