LYMAN Dennis S. Coolbroth, 78, a longtime resident of Lyman, died on July 3, 2021, at Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by his family. Dennis was born at home in Limington on Jan. 26, 1943, the son of Edwin H. and Mary A. (Hartford) Coolbroth. Dennis worked as a machine operator, supervisor and lastly was involved in the ACE Pilot program for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. He worked there for 39-and-a-half years and retired in July 2005. Dennis was a Mason with Fraternal Lodge No. 55 A.F. & A.M. in Alfred. He was also a member of the Maine Scottish Rite of the 32nd degree. He was immensely proud to belong to the Kora Shriners Temple in Lewiston, Maine. Dennis was a member of the Kora Moped Unit and participated in parades all over the state of Maine, serving as Director for five years. Dennis was an amateur radio (ham radio) operator. He learned Morse code and obtained his novice license in the 1980's from the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). He later earned subsequent licenses and obtained the highest-level license of Extra Class. He was one of the founding members of the Southern Maine Amateur Radio Club and taught classes in order to help others prepare for their amateur radio exams. Dennis loved stock-car racing. He served as a pit crew member for Danny Palmer (#93), Sportsman Class at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough Maine for several years. He also raced his own car at Beech Ridge when he was younger. Dennis was an excellent roller skater. In his younger years he was able to do flips on his skates. He was a "floor guard" at Wild Wood roller skating rink in Steep Falls, in the 1960s. It was there he met his future bride, Jean. Dennis enjoyed hunting, NASCAR and watching programs on the Discovery channel. He took many trips with his family to Orlando including staying at Walt Disney World Resort. Dennis is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean (Hazleton) Coolbroth, daughter Beth and her husband Kevin Veilleux and daughter Suzanne Cormier. He is also survived by two grandsons and many nieces and nephews as well as sister-in-law, Norma Coolbroth. He was predeceased by sister, Kathleen L. Jordan and brother, Edwin C. Coolbroth. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., in Alfred. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 15th at 2 p.m. at Autumn Green FH followed by a reception at the Masonic Hall, 165 Waterboro Road, in Alfred where you are welcomed to share memories and stories with his family.
