Florence A. Smith of Chappaqua, New York passed away December 25, 2011 in her sleep. Mrs. Smith was born in New Jersey on July 31, 1917 to parents Paul and Elizabeth Mode.
She is survived by her sons Dwight and Scott and her brother Robert Mode.
Florence graduated from White Plains High School and the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. After graduating from W&M, (class of 1940), Florence moved to New York City where she met and married her husband Willard Smith at the Riverside Church. Florence was the past President of the Riverside Church Young Peoples Guild and the Westchester County Legal Secretaries Assn.
Mrs. Smith worked for twenty years as a legal secretary in the Office of the District Attorney retiring after serving as executive Secretary for two D.A's., Carl A. Vergari and Jeanine Pirro.
Florence and Willard moved to Chappaqua, NY in 1955 and began their enthusiastic association with the First Congregational Church. Florence attended, was a Deacon and taught Sunday school at the Congregational Church. She was a member of the Westchester Emergency Communications Association, an amateur radio organization serving the public through out Westchester.
Mrs. Smith was a family member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, New York Chapter, where Willard was a full member of as a result of surviving the December 7th 1941 attack.
She was an avid fencer since High School and only slowed down after breaking her hip on her 88th birthday.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Congregational Church in Chappaqua, NY at 2:00 on Saturday January 7th 2012. After a reception at the church, interment will be at Fair Ridge Cemetery on Route 120 in Chappaqua, NY.
