Arthur Benjamin Lyon Jr, 91, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in Atlantic Beach, FL after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Audrey O. Lyon.
Lyon is survived by three sons, Arthur B. Lyon III of Albuquerque, NM; Ray P. H. Lyon of Waynesville, NC; and William K. Lyon of Makawao, HI. He is also survived by three step-daughters, one grandchild, and one great grand child.
Born in Knoxville, TN, Lyon graduated from Van Gilder High School in 1938. He attended the University of Tennessee where he studied for a degree in Industrial Engineering. A World War II veteran, he joined the Army Infantry and in 1942 transferred to the Air Corps remaining in the Air Force until his retirement as a Lt. Colonel in 1965.
In 1972, Arthur moved to Ocala, FL where he and Audrey owned and operated 'Lyon Travel Service' for 23 years, a joint venture that took them to all seven continents and many different countries around the world.
He was an avid ham radio operator, and an active RV'er. Possessing a keen intellect, sense of humor, and willingness to try new things, he was very involved with the latest consumer technology, computers, and electronics.
Lyon will be interred in a private ceremony at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Knoxville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, or the Fisher House Foundation.
Arrangements are by Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach.
